Burning Bush in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Unconsumed fire, Horeb bush, Bush that burned

What it means

Man's fallen nature under God's redemptive judgment — burning, yet not consumed.

God's judgment upon the curse of the fall, held in mercy so that it purifies rather than destroys.

Moses turned aside to see. The encounter began with attention to something that did not behave as it should.

✦ When it is positive

  • God's redemptive dealing with the sinful nature
  • A place of calling and commission
  • Ground made holy by God's presence rather than by its own nature

⚠ When it is a warning

  • Fire that consumes where there is no mercy to restrain it

How to tell the difference

The defining detail is that the bush is NOT consumed. If what burns in the dream is destroyed, this is judgment or loss rather than the burning bush. Note whether the dreamer turns aside to look, and whether they are asked to remove their shoes.

Scripture

2The LORD’s angel appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” 4When the LORD saw that he came over to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses! Moses!” He said, “Here I am.” 5He said, “Don’t come close. Take off your sandals, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.”
