Chaff in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Husk, Windblown chaff, Straw
What it means
Moral worthlessness, human fragility, and final divine judgment.
The sinful nature that must be subjected to God; vanity that has no substance.
Chaff is not destroyed by the wind — it is separated by it. The wind only reveals what had no weight to begin with.
✦ When it is positive
- Chaff blown away by the wind, representing God dealing with the fallen nature and man's weakness
⚠ When it is a warning
- The burning of chaff, representing divine judgment against moral weakness and failure
- The dreamer identified with the chaff rather than the wheat
How to tell the difference
The presence of WIND is significant: winnowing requires it, and its absence may indicate a testing that has not yet reached its purpose. Distinguish chaff blown away, which is separation, from chaff burned, which is judgment.
Scripture
The wicked are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
Matthew 3:12 (WEB)
His winnowing fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Luke 3:17 (WEB)
