Night in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Nighttime, Night season, At night

What it means

A warfare setting — the works of darkness, evil, what is hidden, sin, trial and danger; a time of spiritual decline, moral failure and the reign of evil.

A call to watchfulness — waiting for the Lord's return, the end times, and persistence in prayer without giving up.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Night in Scripture is always spoken of as passing.

✦ When it is positive

  • A call not to be spiritually complacent
  • Spiritual alertness and readiness
  • Watching and praying

⚠ When it is a warning

  • The decline of godliness
  • An age under the reign of darkness
  • The testing of character

How to tell the difference

NIGHT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SETTING CUE IN THE LIBRARY. A night setting shifts many otherwise neutral symbols toward warfare — see especially Underwater, Being Chased and Hiding. But note that in Hiding, darkness names the THREAT the dreamer is covered from, not the dreamer's condition.

Scripture

even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

Psalm 139:12 (WEB)

The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.

Romans 13:12 (WEB)

5He said to them, “Which of you, if you go to a friend at midnight and tell him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, 6for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him,’ 7and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’? 8I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.

Luke 11:5-10 (WEB)
