Summons in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Subpoena, Summoned to court, Summoned before the judge, Called to court
What it means
A divine call to serve or to follow God.
Summons to judgment and repentance
✦ When it is positive
- God's direct call to individuals for a divine purpose
⚠ When it is a warning
- Biblically God summons nations to account for their actions (e.g., Joel 3:12)
How to tell the difference
One of the clearest parallels is the rib (Hebrew for "lawsuit" or "legal controversy"). See Nehemiah 5:7, 2 Samuel 15:2. Here, God acts as both prosecutor and judge in a divine court. On the Hebrew side, the word qara (to call, proclaim) is frequently used in this summoning context. See Genesis 3:9, 46:33.
