Breaking in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Shattering, Fracturing, Breaking down, Tearing down
What it means
Shattering bondages; overthrowing systems; tearing down strongholds; a prophetic call.
Confronting opposing forces; tearing down evil fortifications; challenging traditions; destroying false belief.
See, I have this day set thee over the nations, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant. The prophetic commission begins with demolition and ends with planting.
✦ When it is positive
- Calling people back to God
- Removing idols
- A call to revival
- Preparing hearts
⚠ When it is a warning
- Tearing down God's work instead of the enemy's
- Destroying what was righteously built
- Covenant infidelity and unfaithfulness — a vow made and not kept
- The crushing of nations, as a potter's vessel is broken
- A vessel broken beyond mending, as Jeremiah broke the bottle before the elders
How to tell the difference
Establish WHAT is being broken and BY WHOSE HAND. Breaking a stronghold is commission; breaking what God built is warning. A time to break down, and a time to build up — note which season the dream is showing. Note also that BREAKING can mean the breaking of a vow or covenant with God — see Numbers 30:2 — which is a different matter from breaking a stronghold. For the breaking of bread in fellowship, see Breaking Bread.
