What it means

God's power, the victory over sin, and the wisdom of God.

Self-sacrifice of one's own desires and will; denying oneself and putting to death the desires of the flesh.

The cross was an instrument of public shame that God made the place of open triumph. Its meaning is inverted by what Christ did on it.

A place of shame and defeat where the cross is seen without Christ

How to tell the difference

Taking up one's cross is a willing choice to sacrifice for the Lord or for a fellow believer. Note whether the cross is carried, laid down, refused, or looked at — and whether the dreamer bears their own or another's.
