Mercy. The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

The face reveals what the heart contains — a merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance.

How to tell the difference

Note WHOSE face and what it expresses. A shining face points to God's favour resting on a person; a hardened or averted face points to what the heart holds. A faceless figure is a different symbol — see Faceless Person.
