Linen in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
What it means
Righteousness — on the positive side, God's righteousness; on the negative, man's righteousness and effort.
Linen is made from flax, a plant that comes from the ground (the cursed ground after the fall) — representing man's efforts, which are cursed.
God forbade Israel from wearing a garment of both wool and linen (Deuteronomy 22:11) because linen represented man's righteousness while wool represented God's righteousness.
✦ When it is positive
- God's righteousness
⚠ When it is a warning
- Man's righteousness, human effort
- Works that are like permanently stained rags before God
How to tell the difference
Must be read in context with wool — the two fabrics together represent the contrast between human effort and divine grace.
Scripture
For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Isaiah 64:6 (WEB)
You shall not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
Deuteronomy 22:11 (WEB)
