Scroll in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Book roll, Written scroll, Sealed scroll, Open scroll
What it means
An ancient revelation or mystery.
Spiritual revelation and divine knowledge committed to writing.
Ezekiel was given a scroll to eat before he could speak. The message had to be taken in before it could be given out — revelation is consumed before it is preached.
✦ When it is positive
- An open scroll, representing a divine mystery or revelation now disclosed
⚠ When it is a warning
- A closed or sealed scroll, representing a mystery still concealed from the dreamer
How to tell the difference
The scroll Ezekiel ate contained words of lamentation, mourning and woe — the message of covenant curses he was to preach. A scroll that is bitter to the stomach but sweet in the mouth indicates a true word that will cost the one who carries it. Note whether the scroll is being read, eaten, sealed or handed over.
Scripture
8But you, son of man, hear what I tell you. Don’t be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth, and eat that which I give you.” 9When I looked, behold, a hand was stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. 10He spread it before me. It was written within and without; and lamentations, mourning, and woe were written in it.
Ezekiel 2:8-10 (WEB)
1He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find. Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the scroll. 3He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your belly and your bowels with it.” Then I ate it. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth.
Ezekiel 3:1-3 (WEB)
I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.
Revelation 5:1 (WEB)
9I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.” 10I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth. When I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11They told me, “You must prophesy again over many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”
