Sickle in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Harvest knife, Reaping sickle, Reaping hook

What it means

God's timing for the harvest, and the timing of God's judgment.

The instrument that ends a season. The sickle is not put in until the crop is ripe — its appearance says the time is full.

In Joel and Revelation the sickle is thrust in because the harvest is ripe, making it a symbol of timing rather than of anger.

✦ When it is positive

  • A ripe harvest ready to be gathered
  • The right season having arrived

⚠ When it is a warning

  • God's time to judge man and man's work

How to tell the difference

The sickle marks TIMING above all. Note the state of the crop: ripe indicates fulness of time, green indicates a work not yet finished, and over-ripe indicates a season that has been allowed to pass.

Scripture

Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword, they will each return to their own people, and they will each flee to their own land.

Mark 4:29 (WEB)

14I looked, and saw a white cloud, and on the cloud one sitting like a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. 15Another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Send your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come; for the harvest of the earth is ripe!” 16He who sat on the cloud thrust his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. 17Another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle.
