Vineyard in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Grape vineyard, Lord's vineyard, The vineyard

What it means

The Kingdom, and stewardship within it.

Fruitfulness, and the nation of Israel as God's planting.

In Isaiah 5 the Lord did everything necessary for the vineyard, and it brought forth wild grapes. The failure was not in the care given but in the fruit produced.

✦ When it is positive

  • The Kingdom of God
  • Fruitfulness
  • Labourers called into the vineyard at any hour

⚠ When it is a warning

  • A vineyard yielding wild or sour grapes, representing human sin and unfaithfulness
  • A vineyard trodden down or its hedge removed

How to tell the difference

The corners of the vineyard left unharvested represent care for the poor within God's Kingdom. Note whether the dreamer is owner, labourer, or trespasser, and whether the fruit is good, wild or absent.

Scripture

1Let me sing for my well beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fruitful hill. 2He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in the middle of it, and also cut out a wine press in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. 3“Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard. 4What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes?

Isaiah 5:1-7 (WEB)

Don’t stare at me because I am dark, because the sun has scorched me. My mother’s sons were angry with me. They made me keeper of the vineyards. I haven’t kept my own vineyard.

Song of Solomon 1:6 (WEB)

1“For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3He went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. 4He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went their way.

33“Hear another parable. There was a man who was a master of a household who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a wine press in it, built a tower, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country. 34When the season for the fruit came near, he sent his servants to the farmers to receive his fruit. 35The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36Again, he sent other servants more than the first; and they treated them the same way.
