Pruning in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Pruning vines, Cutting back branches, Purging the branch
What it means
Spiritual refinement — cutting away dead branches so that what remains becomes effective.
Cleansing; the removal of unwanted weight so that strength goes where it is needed.
Every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it. Pruning is applied to the fruitful branch, not only the barren one, which is why it can feel like correction when it is actually preparation.
✦ When it is positive
- Spiritual refinement so that one may bear more fruit
- Being made ready for a greater yield
⚠ When it is a warning
- Branches cut off and burned, representing what does not abide
How to tell the difference
Note WHO is doing the pruning. If it is a gardener, vinedresser or prominent figure, this represents God doing the work. If the dreamer is being pruned while bearing fruit, the dream concerns increase rather than punishment.
Scripture
1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. 2Every branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.
John 15:1-8 (WEB)
For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he will cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and he will cut down and take away the spreading branches.
Isaiah 18:5 (WEB)
All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11 (WEB)
