Ihubo in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Amahubo, Amaculo eentsapho, Amaculo edlozi, Clan song, Tribal chant
What it means
A traditional ceremonial chant, anthem or sacred tribal song in Nguni cultures — sacred ritual intended to connect a community with its history and its ancestors (amadlozi).
The invoking of spirits through cultural song.
A song carries what it was written to carry; the melody is not the issue, the invocation is.
✦ When it is positive
- AMAHUBO IN THE SENSE OF OLD SOUTH AFRICAN WESLEYAN CHURCH HYMNS are beneficial for a believer — speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord
⚠ When it is a warning
- The invoking of familiar spirits through song
How to tell the difference
ESTABLISH WHICH KIND OF SONG THE DREAM SHOWS. A clan ihubo sung to summon or honour amadlozi is invocation. An old church hymn, though also called ihubo, is worship and is beneficial. The words and the object of the song decide it, not the form.
