Isiphandla in a dream
Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa
Also: Inqwambu, Goat skin wristband, Ancestral band, Goat hide bracelet
What it means
A goat-skin band tied around the wrist — often left or right depending on whether the maternal or paternal lineage is being honoured — and traditionally left to dry and wear off naturally over months, marking an ongoing covenant with familiar spirits disguised as ancestors.
It symbolises a deep connection with the dead (abadala).
Imbeleko, the introduction of a newborn to the ancestors, and thanksgiving or welcoming ceremonies also use a goat's hide. Cowhides are used for major ceremonies such as bringing a spirit of the dead home, cleansing a home, or a sangoma's inauguration.
⚠ When it is a warning
- A band marking an ongoing agreement with familiar spirits
- Notably, in Scripture the GOAT represents stubbornness, rebellion and sin, while the SHEEP — rarely used for the dead — represents a disciple
How to tell the difference
The material itself carries meaning: goat rather than sheep. For those in Christ these spirits cannot establish a covenant, because Christ's covenant already secures the believer; they may only seek a spiritual influence, deceptive agreement or foothold through temptation, deception or unrepented sin. Note whether the dreamer wears the band, is given it, or removes it — removal signals renunciation.
Scripture
He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

10There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who tells fortunes, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, 11or a charmer, or someone who consults with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12For whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD. Because of these abominations, the LORD your God drives them out from before you.
