Knocking in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Rapping, Seeking admission, Calling at the door, Knocking on a door

What it means

Requesting entry; seeking attention; persistent petition directed toward a closed door, barrier or person of authority.

Persistence in prayer; spiritual awakening; divine pursuit; testing the receptivity of a heart or a home.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. The One with all authority waits to be admitted rather than forcing the door.

✦ When it is positive

  • Persistent prayer and seeking God, with the promise that the door will be opened
  • Christ standing at the door of the heart, knocking and seeking fellowship
  • Opportunity presented through persistent engagement

⚠ When it is a warning

  • Unwelcome intrusion
  • Pounding on a door with malicious intent, as the mob at Lot's door
  • Knocking on doors that lead to forbidden or deceptive spiritual paths

How to tell the difference

Knocking implies an active response is required from the one inside. Note WHO is knocking and WHO is expected to answer — if Christ knocks, the dream concerns the dreamer's own door; if the dreamer knocks, it concerns persistence in petition.

The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’? 8I tell you, although he will not rise and give it to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as many as he needs.
