Screaming in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Crying out, Shouting in fear, Screaming in a dream, Waking up screaming

What it means

A warfare dream — signalling either an imminent attack or an attack the dreamer is presently going through.

Where something happens in the dream and the dreamer wakes up screaming, this signals an experience ahead that will cause them to cry for help or be frightened.

The cry itself is not weakness. Scripture is full of those who cried out and were heard — the cry is often the beginning of the deliverance rather than the end of the strength.

✦ When it is positive

  • Screaming in joy, which signals a good experience coming the dreamer's way

⚠ When it is a warning

  • Screaming as the result of an attack in the dream, representing a spiritual attack
  • Screaming in pain over something that unfolded in the dream, representing something coming that will break the heart

How to tell the difference

DISTINGUISH THE CAUSE OF THE SCREAM. A scream caused by an attack is warfare. A scream caused by pain or grief within the dream points to heartbreak ahead. A scream of joy points to good news. The emotion behind the sound decides the reading, not the sound itself.

Scripture

The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

Psalm 34:17 (WEB)

Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

Psalm 107:6 (WEB)

23In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

Exodus 2:23-24 (WEB)
