Midwife in a dream

Biblical meaning from Hearing God's Voice in Dreams by Apostle Nicholas V. Mbanjwa

Also: Birth attendant, Delivering a baby, Helping with a birth

What it means

A steward of human life, and of gifts and callings; quiet moral courage exercised against tyrannical authority.

A preserver of human life from tyrannical powers, whether spiritual or literal.

The midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. Their defiance was quiet, costly and unrecorded by anyone but God — who built them houses for it.

✦ When it is positive

  • Protecting people and their gifts
  • Guarding anointings
  • Helping others birth out and release the gifts God has given them

⚠ When it is a warning

  • Withholding help at a birth
  • Complying with what would destroy what is being born

How to tell the difference

A MIDWIFE DOES NOT GIVE BIRTH — she assists another's delivery. The dream usually concerns the dreamer's role in helping SOMEONE ELSE bring something forth. Note whose birth it is and whether it succeeds.

Scripture

15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah, 16and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” 17But the midwives feared God, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive. 18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing and saved the boys alive?”
